About World Students' Day
October 15th, which is the birthday of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, is commemorated as World Students’ Day to honour his hard work and dedication.
The day aims to acknowledge the efforts of Kalam towards education and students.
Kalam was born on October 15th 1931. Kalam was elected as the 11th president of India in 2002. Widely referred to as the "People's President", he returned to his civilian life of education, writing and public service after a single term. He was a recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour. Kalam collapsed and died from an apparent cardiac arrest on July 27th 2015, aged 83.
In 2010 the United Nations declared October 15th "World Students' Day".
