About Respect Your Cat Day
On March 28th 1384, Richard II, the King of England officially condemned the eating of cats. While there is no record of when this day started to be observed, it can be no coincidence that this major step forward in human-feline relations wasn't the inspiration for the date of this day.
Of course, if we delve deeper into history, cats have had a rollercoaster relationship with us, dating back to ancient Egypt when cats were worshipped and even preserved as mummies after their death.
As I type this, it is 5 pm and my cat is snuggled up in her bed, hanging from a nice warm radiator. She'll have to get up in an hour to have some fresh chicken and then treats at 8 pm. Her evening meal will be served at 10.30 pm, after which she will be free to terrorize any remaining local rodents - and guess what? It's not even March 28th - but yes, of course, I'm fully behind the idea of another observance to make our cats feel even more special. I am but the help, after all.
