About International Day for Museums
Every year since 1977 International Museum Day is organised worldwide around May 18th. This day is an occasion to raise awareness on how important museums are in the development of society.
Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding and peace among people.
Recently observed by more than 37,000 museums in more than 158 countries and territories.
The day is sponsored by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), Paris, France.
