About Squirrel Appreciation Day
This holiday was founded in 2001 by wildlife rehabilitator Christy Hargrove of Asheville, North Carolina, as a way to highlight that this was the hardest time of year for squirrels as they are running out of food sources.
- Did you know? Red squirrels are one a of very small number of mammals (including humans, chimpanzees and armadillos) to suffer from leprosy.
