About Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance
President George W. Bush proclaimed Sept. 11, 2002 as the first Patriot Day, a national day of mourning, and although it is not a national holiday, many cities and towns around the country hold ceremonies to remind the public to never forget those who were lost and to always remain vigilant.
