About National Pastry Day
There is such a bewildering array of pastries available, that is hard to pin down one type in particular. All we can say that is probably best to try them all - just don't it all today.
Pastries date back to ancient times: Ancient Egyptians made puff pastry from grain flour and flour and sweetened it with honey, and ancient Greeks and Romans made sweets from paper-thin puff pastry. Cakes traveled to Europe in medieval times, where fats like butter and shortening were added to make a sturdier dough.
