About National Mail Order Catalog Day
The first Montgomery Ward catalogue was produced on August 18th 1872. And while many businesses were already publishing mail-order catalogues, it was Aaron Montgomery Ward that is credited for producing the first mail-order catalogue meant for the general public. This first catalog was only a single sheet of paper. By 1904 the Montgomery Ward catalog weighed four pounds and over three million customers were on the catalogue mailing list.
In December 2000 Montgomery Ward announced that it was going out of business, and in 2001 it closed its remaining stores.
