About National Ferris Wheel Day
The first Ferris wheel was designed and built by George Washington Gale Ferris Jr. and debuted at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois, United States.
The original Ferris wheel was an engineering marvel at the time, standing 264 feet (80 meters) tall and capable of carrying over 2,000 people at a time. It was an instant success and became a popular attraction at fairs and amusement parks around the world.
The concept of the Ferris wheel has been replicated and modified many times over the years, and it remains a popular ride at amusement parks and carnivals to this day.
