About National Espresso Day
Coffee is great, but there's nothing like a shot or three of espresso to really get your day going. The ultra-caffeinated beverage is so good it's got its own national holiday
Angelo Moriondo, from Turin, patented a steam-driven "instantaneous" coffee beverage-making device in 1884. The device is "almost certainly the first Italian bar machine that controlled the supply of steam and water separately through the coffee" and as such Moriondo is regarded as the inventor of the espresso machine.
