About National Buffet Day
It's almost cruel to have this holiday so early in the year - those who have made New Year resolutions to lose weight may be led into temptation when reminded about the benefits of a buffet!
Sure buffets encourage you to eat beyond your stomach's capacity, but they also encourage mid-dining exercise. It's a long walk from your table to the buffet and back again. Try fitting in that kind of cardio during a five-course meal.
- Did you know? According to the Guinness World Records, the largest buffet ever consisted of 5,829 different dishes and was arranged by Surat Thani Province at Samui Island, Surat Thani, Thailand on 9 September 2017.
Buffets began in the 19th century as a way of feeding a large number of guests at balls and other functions, which wouldn't have the capacity for all guests to sit down at the same time and be served in a timely fashion.
The term buffet originally referred to the French sideboard furniture where the food was placed.
