About Key Deer Awareness Day
This holiday has been observed since 2016.
Key deer, a smaller version of whitetail deer, have been on the endangered species list since 1967, yet most people are unaware of their existence.
Today they are threatened by sea level rise, habitat loss, and parasites.
The day takes place annually on March 11th marking the date when their endangered status was published in 1967 to the Federal Register.
