World Teachers Day internationally |
Held yearly on October 5th, the International teachers’ day revolves around “acknowledging, evaluating and enhancing the instructors of the world” and gives a chance to consider the issues identified with educators and the teaching process in general.
It is an occasion to reflect on the challenges and opportunities facing the teaching profession in the current context.
UNESCO and its partners have already urged governments to prioritize teachers in education recovery plans, ensuring their participation, protection, training and support.
It is observed as Education Day, a public holiday in Kiribati.
Held since 1994, October 5th commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. This Recommendation sets benchmarks regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions.
A good teacher is like a candle - it consumes itself to light the way for others.
World Teachers’ Day is co-convened in partnership with UNICEF, UNDP, the International Labour Organization, and Education International.
