About Towel Day
Do you know where your towel is? Do you know its significance? If you are a fan of science fiction literature, you most likely do. Towel Day was created to commemorate one of the best-known authors ever born in Great Britain, Douglas Noel Adams, the mind behind The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
The history of the Guide novels is almost as adventurous as the novels themselves. Initially, he pitched the idea of a BBC comedy radio series that later turned into everything from stage shows to a Hollywood feature film. There was, in turn, one item that was always central to the story: the towel, perhaps the most important thing a galactic hitchhiker can have.
The first Towel Day was observed on May 25th 2001 – two weeks after Adams’ passing.
