About Telegraph Pole Appreciation Day
As we go about our daily business, it's sometimes easy not to notice the hidden beauty around us, even in the most mundane things. Take telegraph poles for instance. These functional structures are seen by most of us everyday day, but they are almost invisible to our consciousness.
So why not take a moment and appreciate the functionality and design of everyday things, starting with telegraph poles? This is what happened to the founder of this holiday, Martin Evans.
When we asked Martin about the reason for the day, he said: "The notion of a specific appreciation day came on one of those fine late September mornings when I observed a fine run of poles disappearing off into the early mist over undulating fields. Rooks cawing from atop and with cobwebs glistening like jewels from the linesman's steps and I thought more people need to feel what I'm feeling now."
