About Philippine-American War Memorial Day
The special working holiday is held in commemoration of the sacrifice and bravery of the men and women who fought and died in defense of the Filipino nation during the Philippine-American war. The Philippine-American war, which began on the evening of February 4th 1899 at Manilas San Juan del Monte bridge left 2,000 Filipinos either dead or wounded. Under the law, the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) must ensure that appropriate activities are held in schools at all levels to commemorate the Philippine-American War Memorial Day.
