National Milk Day falls on January 11th to observe this day in 1878 when milk was first delivered to American homes inside sterilized glass bottles.

Alexander Campbell of New York brought milk to his customers in sealed bottles. Previously, a milkman ladled milk from his container into the purchaser’s container.

The milk bottle was developed and patented in 1877 and the New York Dairy Company is said to have had the first factory producing milk bottles.
