About National Education Day
National Education Day is an annual observance in India to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Nooh, the first education minister of independent India, who served from August 15th 1947 until February 2nd 1958.
Azad during his tenure in the Education Ministry promoted research in eastern learning and literature and set up the three academies to develop the fine arts. He also started the work on the compilation of technical terms in Hindi on a large scale.
The purpose of celebrating National Education Day is to strengthen India's educational institutions and to keep raising the quality of education to greater heights. It is also an occasion to remember Maulana Azad’s contribution in laying the foundations of the education system and his work in forming an independent India.
